The world knows its futnet champions in singles - Boglárka Lepsényi (HUN) and Jiří Kalous (CZE).
Current world champion Boglárka Lepsényi had no trouble against Czech Lucie Vokáčová and advanced to finals after sets 11:7 and 11:5.
Romanian Alexandra Petricas did not manage to break through the excellent defense of Cathrine Striebel (SUI), and lost this match 3:11 and 7:11.
Jiří Kalous (CZE) is a very strong single player and he showed his qualities in semifinal against Branislav Zubák (SVK) and won 2:0 (11:3, 11:9).
Second semifinal was more dramatic, with Alex Sorean (ROU) winning against Hungarian Adam Harsányi (HUN) in two sets (11:7, 12:10).
Third place match in womens category was very tough. Lucie Vokáčová (CZE) won the first set 11:6 and bulit up a solid lead 10:3, but then Alexandra Petricas scored a few points and Vokacova was nervous and could not break the defense of Romanian player. But finally, one of her technical attacks was succesful and thus bronze medal goes to Czech Republic.
But the real drama was yet to come. Cathrine Striebel (SUI) challenged Boglárka Lepsényi (HUN). Both players performed excellent futnet. Stribel was in the lead of both sets but Lepsényi was a little better in the final points winning the first set 11:7 and the second one after great battle 11:9. Boglárka Lepsényi retained the title of world champion.
Another excellent futnet performance was given by Jiří Kalous (CZE) and Alex – Bertold Sorean (ROU). Both players used powerful smashes and excellent technique. Sorean won the first set 11:8 but Kalous recovered in the second set and won 11:5. The final set was a top futnet match, with a happy end for Kalous, who won 11:9 and provided the first gold medal for Czech Republic in this championships.
